30 September 2007 - British WEKAF Invitational, Northampton

The Danny Guba Doce Pares team stormed the British WEKAF Invitational with a good 15 strong team of fighters. The team consisted of mainly Filipinos, which is the biggest in British WEKAF history. All DG Doce Pares fighters gave all competitors a hard time, who had to fight hard to get most of the top awards.

The highlight of the day was the team event where Doce Pares, yet again, had the biggest number of teams. There were three fighters in each of the three teams, who gave the opposing teams a good beating.

Our favourite player of the day has to be French fighter Jean Krohn (aka Harry Potter) who was doing a pretty hell of a good job in disarming his opponents... ("Now you see it, now you don't").... while doing a traditional Doce Pares pose right after every disarm.

The DGDP team was backed and cheered by fellow DG Doce Pares team mates who couldn't make the fights, and also by Filipino film crew FilMeFilm TV. Inspite of only getting 1 gold, 3 silvers and 3 bronzes the team still did a great job in their first ever tournament.

GM Danny, inspite of not being able to attend the event, is extremely proud of all his Doce Pares students who have only been training for 2-3 months and still were able to fight competitively with more experienced fighters, including members of the British Team. He will be training all of them personally in preparation for the upcoming WEKAF Championships this November.

Overall, the event was great, well-organized and fun; but the judging could have been better. We'd like to thank JKD Northampton, United Arnis Fighters and Kapatiran Arnis for hosting the event well. Team DG Doce Pares are looking forward to their next tournament on 4th November for the British WEKAF Championships. [See photos...]
