Eskrima and Doce Pares
Eskrima, also known as Arnis or Kali, is an indigeneous Filipino Martial Art which utilizes weapons such as sticks (single and double), knife/daggers, espada y daga (sword and dagger), bangkaw (staff), mano-mano (empty hands: kicking and punching), and dumog (grappling) - the Filipino way. It is a complete system by itself.
Doce Pares is an assemblage of various styles. Styles that were brought and introduced into the organization by the founding masters in 1932. To the credit of the leaders of the organization, these diverse and often contrasting styles and skills were all successfully integrated and passed on to the next generation of Doce Pares adherents. The following styles each comprise a portion of the group's training curriculum:
The Close range style (corto) of Lorenzo and Teodoro Saavendra
The Medium range style of Jesus Cui
The Espada y Daga and Corto Orihinal style of Felimon Canete
The Long Range style of Yoling Canete and Vincent Carin
In the later years, the Corto style of Ciriaco Canete and "Pangamut" of Maximo Canete.

14-17 June 2007 - Doce Pares fighters Ermar Alexander and James Carter, along with the British Team, competed at this year's European WEKAF Championships held in Terracina, Italy. Ermar bagged two gold medals in single stick and double sticks sparring, while James also won two silver medals in single and double stick sparring. Unfortunately, the sayaw/forms competition was cancelled due to lack of competitors. During the same event, the Italian AKEA Championships was also held where Ermar won another gold medal in double-stick sparring on his first attempt. (AKEA = Arnis Kali Eskrima Association)
Overall, the British Team won first place, beating the Italians, the Germans, the Polish and the Spanish in this friendly bout. Thank you to Team Coaches John Harvey and Jude Tucker who led the Team to its success. We're looking forward to more events with the European teams. 23-24 June 2007 - Despite of the wet wet weekend, Doce Pares made itself known within the Filipino Community at the Morden Independence Day fiesta held in Morden Park. Doce Pares was supported by the Philippine National Bank (PNB) and we all had great fun in the rain, promoting Filipino Martial Arts to spectators at the event who got a chance to see various Filipino weaponry and experienced Ermar Alexander demonstrating some Eskrima techniques. In association with PNB, if you subscribe to a PNB GMFC card, you get to attend one class for free and you also get 10% off on all Doce Pares class fees and equipment*.

14th-15th July, Sat-Sun 10am-4pm - The 2nd British FMA Festival is to take place in Kent. If you would like to experience and see different FMA systems, this event is a must.
14th-15th July, Sat-Sun 10am-5pm - There will be an all-day FMA exhibition at the Annual Filipino Barrio Fiesta - the biggest event in the Filipino Community calendar in Europe - at Lampton Park, Hounslow, Middlesex. DG Doce Pares will definitely be there to display some Filipino weapons and to show the basics of Doce Pares Original Multi Style to those interested. An exhibition area is prepared where we will perform Demos on the Saturday 14th July at 1.45-2.45pm and on the Sunday 15th July at 3.45-4.45pm.
Ruben Tansingco, representing Tapado Arnis, will also be attending the event and will also be performing at the exhibition area on only the Saturday 14th July at 3.45-4.45pm, so this is not to be missed!!
21 July, Sat - The Pinoy Sports UK Basketball League Championship Game (Finals) will be held at the Battersea Youth Sports Centre. We will be performing a demo at show proper. So if you are interested, you are more than welcome to experience Philippine's most beloved sport, basketball!
22 July, Sun - The Gumtree Sports Day is to be held in Clapham Common, where a huge community of Gumtree-er sports fans are attending the fun-filled event. DG Doce Pares will, once again, be there to show to the British Community the sports aspect of Arnis/Eskrima. Those interested will have the chance to gear up and beat each other with sticks!
26th-27th August, Sun-Mon - Merton & Wimbledon Lions Club are hosting this year's Summer Fair 2007 to be held in Morden Park. DG Doce Pares was invited by the Fire Marshal and Security Crew to demonstrate Arnis/Eskrima at their event. About 5,000 visitors attended last year's Fair and this year's fair will include Hog Roasts - LECHON! - truly a day out for all eskrimadors!
22nd-23rd September, Sat-Sun 10am-5pm - A Doce Pares Original Multi Style System Seminar is to be held and attended by the founder of WEKAF, the highest ranking in Doce Pares, and the current Doce Pares Chairman, Grand Master Diony Cañete. This will be held in Fawkham, Kent. Please contact info@dgdocepares.co.uk if you would like to attend the event.
30 September, Sun - The World Arnis Sports Alliance British Championships will be held in September this year. For anyone interested to join or for further information, please email info@dgdocepares.co.uk
