Eskrima and Doce Pares
Eskrima, also known as Arnis or Kali, is an indigeneous Filipino Martial Art which utilizes weapons such as sticks (single and double), knife/daggers, espada y daga (sword and dagger), bangkaw (staff), mano-mano (empty hands: kicking and punching), and dumog (grappling) - the Filipino way. It is a complete system by itself.
Doce Pares is an assemblage of various styles. Styles that were brought and introduced into the organization by the founding masters in 1932. To the credit of the leaders of the organization, these diverse and often contrasting styles and skills were all successfully integrated and passed on to the next generation of Doce Pares adherents. The following styles each comprise a portion of the group's training curriculum:
The Close range style (corto) of Lorenzo and Teodoro Saavendra
The Medium range style of Jesus Cui
The Espada y Daga and Corto Orihinal style of Felimon Canete
The Long Range style of Yoling Canete and Vincent Carin
In the later years, the Corto style of Ciriaco Canete and "Pangamut" of Maximo Canete.
News
14th-15th July - Annual Filipino Barrio Fiesta - Two days of fun-filled activities kept DG Doce Pares busy, who came together and helped out in promoting Filipino Martial Arts. Thousands of spectators were able to see and experience FMA, where we performed demos at the park grounds and at the exhibition area. Once again, thank you to PNB and the Philippine Centre. 22 July - The Gumtree Sports Day was a massive success! The Gumtree Team were so energetic. The Doce Pares team joined the volleyball game competition, winning the first game (and to think, none of us have touched a ball in years!), and had lots of fun and made loads of new friends. Funny that our tent blew away while we were in the volleyball court. We also ran free classes throughout the day, and many joined in to learn the sinuwali, taught by Instructor Ermar 'Alex' Alexander and his senior students. Thank you to the Gumtree people and to those who participated through the day! Photos of the event are available on the website.
31 July, 11 August, 18 August - GM Danny Guba has been visiting us more frequently recently. Everybody has been learning new double stick, knife and empty hand techniques. GM Danny is also proud that everyone's on the right track of training... everytime saying "you're all 'carbon copies' of Alex!" and smiles.
18 August - The first Danny Guba Doce Pares Grading (Instructor Ermar Alexander's students only) was held in Chatham, Kent - GM Danny Guba administered the grading and passed all aspiring students. 7 passed white belt level, and 1 passed yellow. An after-party celebration was held that evening at Filipino club FM Pasyalan Restaurant and Grill in Shepherd's Bush.

26th-27th August, Sun-Mon - Merton & Wimbledon Lions Club are hosting this year's Summer Fair 2007 to be held in Morden Park. DG Doce Pares was invited by the Fire Marshal and Security Crew to demonstrate Arnis/Eskrima at their event. About 5,000 visitors attended last year's Fair and this year's fair will include Hog Roasts - LECHON! - truly a day out for all eskrimadors!
September 2007 - Flyers with a FREE class incentive will be handed out to interested individuals at a martial art shop in Central London. Details will be posted on the website once these have been made available.
21 September, Friday 6pm - A 'Meet and Greet' event at the Philippine Embassy will be attended by 2nd Generation British Filipinos to get to know each other, network and also hear the 2nd Generation programmes and projects. Doce Pares will be there to promote Filipino Martial Arts and to perform a demo.
22nd-23rd September, Sat-Sun 10am-5pm - A Doce Pares Original Multi Style System Seminar is to be held and attended by the founder of WEKAF, the highest ranking in Doce Pares, and the current Doce Pares Chairman, Grand Master Diony Cañete. This will be held in Fawkham, Kent.
30th September, Sun - British WEKAF Invitational to be held in Luton. (Live stick, full body protectors)
30th September, Sun - British Arnis Alliance Championships to be held in Mansfield. (Padded stick, limited armour)
4th November, Sun - British WEKAF Championships to be held in Luton. (Live stick, full body protectors)
18th November, Sun - British Low Armour Championships to be held in Luton. (Live stick, limited armour)
30th December, Sun - Doce Pares International 75th Anniversary. Cebu, Philippines.
July 2008 - 10th WEKAF World Championships to be held in Cebu, Philippines.
August 2008 - GM Danny Guba, the highest authority on Doce Pares in Europe and the UK, has arranged Master Val Pableo to come to the UK and run some workshops which will be open to anyone who wants to experience the Doce Pares system.

New London Class
Doce Pares has opened a new club in London!! Classes will be held at The Place near Euston/King's Cross every Thursdays at 8pm, commencing on 4th October where GM Danny Guba and his top students will do a demo for everyone to see what eskrima/arnis is about.
